Ben Smith advises that Mike Duncan has launched his campaign for reelection as RNC chair. So you can imagine my surprise when I received an email from the Republican National Committee on this very subject.
I don’t usually receive emails from the RNC, in fact I don’t ever receive emails from them, but there is was. As I viewed the subject, "An offer to Lahdee," and pondered whether or not it was spam, I was overcome with emotion. What if the republicans were coming to me in a spirit of bipartisanship? What if they truly wanted to join with a liberal Democrat to advance America and support President-elect Obama?
My curiosity got the better of me and so I opened it.
They surprised me again, not with an appeal for donations or an offer of comity, but with a request I run for RNC chair. That’s right, for just $49.99 I could run for RNC chair. All I had to do was give them my credit card information and I’d be in. Better yet, if I was interested in the premium package a cashiers check for $5,000,000 in the next 24 hours would guarantee a place on the ballot and my own team of experts to harass, slime and suppress the turnout of other candidates.
